Finally, after the long Corona break, fistball could be played again at a competitive level.
On June 4th, 2021, the time had come, and the first round of the 4th league took place in Herblingen in front of a home crowd.
Interest was high, and around 20 guests visited us; many thanks to everyone for their enthusiastic support.
Although we were eligible to play in the 3rd league, we opted for the 4th league so that our new players could gain experience.
We started the first match against Flurlingen exactly as planned, with one of the new players. The first set went narrowly to Flurlingen, 7-11.
For the second set, we fielded our regular players and took it home 11-8. In the third set, a tactical change was made shortly before the end, and the middle blocker was replaced.
This substitution paid off, and Herblingen won the set 13-11, despite trailing by four points at one point.
In the second match, our second new player also got to demonstrate what he had learned in training.
As the grass became increasingly damp and the balls faster, it wasn't easy for the backcourt players. We also lost this first set to Buchthalen, 7-11.
For the second set, minor tactical adjustments were made, and ultimately, another substitution was made in the hitting position. This resulted in a set win. (09:11)
We strengthened our defense for the third set and thus won against Buchthalen 8:11.
It was a good start and the atmosphere was fantastic. It's simply wonderful to be able to play fistball with friends again.
